A lawyer for ten United States detained missionaries in Port Au Prince Haiti states that parents of the kids they are suspected of kidnapping told a Haitian judge they handed over their children.
Aviol Fleurant says that parents’ testimony means that child transaction was legal and “we can’t talk any more about trafficking of human beings.”
Fleurant also said on Tuesday he’s “confident” the Haitian judge will dismiss the case.
Prosecutors have to make their final decision on Wednesday on whether to continue this case.
The American missionaries are accused of kidnapping 33 kids into the near DR Dominican Republic without legal papers.
The American Baptist missionaries told they had only good intentions and were going to a Dominican orphanage after Haiti’s devastating earthquake.
